Best Handheld and most Mac compatible

I lost out recently when I picked up my new cellphone only to find out that it isn't compatible with my G5 so I can't use most of the cool features and what's more maddening is that I can't get my email to come up on the internet (which is one of the main reasons for getting this thing). My reaction time was a bit slow and it looks like I missed out on the return/exchange period. So now I have to go with another option.
Can anybody recommend the latest wi-fi, bluetooth, address, email machine that's also Mac compatible...

Id say a sony clie is a pretty good bet. They are great handhelds and are usually mac compatable.
 
What phone did you get? You might be able to get it to work with MissingSync. I just tried it out yesterday and got it to sync my Tmobile MDA with my MacBook yesterday and its pretty cool. A bit wonky on setting it up because it kept listing the services on my macbook as Serial port first and then finally ActiveSync (WM5). If you have a Palm based phone it also has a product which will sync up with macs.


As for handhelds, Dell Axims are pretty good. Those are the ones I use to use. If you want I have a x50 I can sell if I can find it ;) I dont know why, but I just dont like compaqs I guess it is because their bought over by HP and i have a great distaste for HP.


Sony doesnt make handhelds in the US market btw. So if you live in the US, look somewhere else. They pulled out awhile ago. I still have their last handheld. The UX50. What an awesome PDA it was. It only suffered because of lack of RAM and storage. Oh well, I had a 512mb memory stick in it :D
 
Sony no longer makes Clie handhelds, and as a former owner of two Clie's I can say that they were certainly NOT mac compatible. In order to do anything cool (like convert movies and images) you had to use the Sony software that was only for PCs. Missing sync was needed to sync at all. In fact, Missing sync was originally developed to provide Mac/Clie syncing support, though it has now been extended for use with all Palm based devices and is extremely useful as it adds a ton of features. www.missingsync.com

Most Palm handhelds do basic mac syncing out of the box. Pocket PC and Windows moblie devices cannot sync without a third party app. There is a new version of Missing sync for these devices but I do not own a Windows mobile device so I do not know how well it works.

I can suggest two handhelds that may satisfy your needs. The first is the Treo 650. Hi res screen, bluetooth, and phone. No WiFi. It is kinda expensive though if you don't get it with a cell contract. The second is the Palm TX which I own and am happy with. It has a larger screen than the Treo great for watching movies and reading ebooks. It also has bluetooth and Wifi. The TX can be purchased new for near $200. With the missing sync the TX is a great addition to my mac.

As you may have already realized the pickings for Mac compatible handhelds is slim. Another option is Blackberry, but I don't have any experience syncing these devices with a Mac. Hope this helps, and good luck. :)

Sony Clies are not Mac compatible. They never have been- and since they're not being sold anymore, they never will be. I'd go with the Tungsten TX
 
Try Blackberry. I've had a Blackberry for work and for personal use, and it works well. My only issue, until a few weeks back, was that the Blackberry supplied software (which allows synchronizing between MS Outlook on a PC and Blackberry) ONLY runs on a PC.

I did a search on the Internet and found shareware that synchronizes a Blackberry with the Mac Address Book and iCal. The software is called Pocketmac for Blackberry. The only down side is that in order for it to work, you need to connect it to the Mac via USB cable. The process is very simple, though, and while the Pocketmac software documentation is not the best, they were very good about answering detailed questions from me about their product.

The Blackberry can be set up to get your e mail wirelessly, however, and the bluetooth capability interfaces with my car, so that I can make and receive calls totally hands free in the vehicle.

If i were you i would get a palm treo cell. The PDA is dying out, cell/pda's are most certainly whats next (already here).
 
Palm T|X

I have a new Macbook and a couple of older Macs and my T|X works perfectly on both. The only problem is with the wi-fi. Finding somewhere that is accessible in my area is quite difficult. If you like the ease of use of OS X, then you will love the T|X.
