Currently have an 8 plus. Originally upgraded from a 7 plus to a x a few years back but had to return the x due to PWM issues and headaches.

Is the 8 plus still my best option in terms of video or is the new 11 going to fit the bill? Youtube/netflix on the phone is probably my most important use case out of all. I have been also debating getting an iPad Air as my youtube/netflix machine but found the speaker quality to be poor and the lack of portability and just having the device on me at all times to be a down side.

If the 11 is really that much better overall than the 8 plus I could potentially live with the lower quality media playback and just use my ipad more? Anyone been in this situation with a heavy reliance on video?

If you are still possibly prone to the pwm symptoms of the pro series then I will only speak to the 11 vs 8 Plus
- 11 gives you much better speaker output with spatial audio. Certain media — think Dolby surround sound-enabled movies — will support spatial audio. Dolby 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound is supported, as is Dolby Atmos.
- 11 does NOT support HDR nor does the iPhone 8 Plus.
- 8+ supports native 16:9 videos that fill the entire screen and are surrounded by jet black bezels. The 11 does not natively support 16:9 videos so letterboxing occurs and it cannot reach the black level of the bezel so you go from video, to dark grey letterbox, to the black bezel.

In summary, my experience, the sound is much better on the 11, but the 401ppi, native aspect ratio, wider screen, and true black boarders are better on the 8 Plus for watching videos.

Overall, if you value the ease of Face ID, the immense camera improvements, similar battery life, the A13 bionic chip, U1 chip, legit speakers, new form factor, etc....eh, it’s still a personal decision. I tried to be of help but feel I haven’t been.

depends if you have qualcomm or intel iphone 8+, also the antenna design for the 8+ is considered the gold standard. also can you live without touchid, i tried giving my mom my x she gave it back to me in a week.
