iPod Best ipod for small selection of songs

I've posted before that my mini shelf 3 cd disc changer has finally died and quit playing discs. The radio and speakers still work great and I don't want and really can't afford to purchase a new system. I already have a 3.5mm line in cord that works with the Audio in jack on the system--I tried it with my Iphone already.

Sorry for the long winded post but I am trying to find the cheapest way to be able to play all my CDs--currently burning to the computer-when I sleep. I am having trouble deciding which ipod to purchase. I don't need an Ipod Touch..I have an iphone and rmini. I just need a simple ipod to play music at night while I sleep...so good battery life is needed at least 6-7 hours. So far I have about 180 MB...so 16 GB is overkill really.

How good is the Ipod Shuffle? What about the 6 Gen Nanos?

I think for only a few songs u should get a shuffle which has 2 gb-it is a little harder to navigate than a nano but it could work out especially for 180MB

The 7th gen nano has 16GB which as u said may be overkill for how many songs u have but it also has bluetooth so if u want to use it in your car or on a bluetooth speaker-u can also put movies on it, listen to radio s and track your runs using the built in nike plus app.As for the 6th gen nano u cant do movies, there is no bluetooth and you have to buy a special dongle to use it for nike plus i believe.

Grand total for music to copy is 605MB. I don't know how long this set up will work and worry about it being future proof of course.

2GB sounds somewhat good for your situation so i would go withthe $50 shuffle...if u think it will grow u could by a nano. Maybe look on ebay or buy a $99 refurbished 7th gen nano from apples website.

The problem with the Shuffle is that you really can't control it in the dark because there's no screen and nothing lights up. BUT, if you make some playlists to match the CDs that were in your previous player, I think it wouldn't be hard to learn and get used to.

Also the line-in cord would work, but I'm thinking that the Shuffle is so small that you'll have to find a way to clip it to your radio because there's no other way to dock it.

The Nano really isn't better because it's just as small. But it's much easier to use in the dark.

I don't see the option on the Shuffle to repeat the playlist. If I sleep longer than 6 1/2 hours I think it was the music will stop. There's a repeat playlist on my rmini and iphone. I really don't want to use either of these devices as I do use them for different things.

You can add the same songs multiple times. That'd be the dirty way of handling it. Just copy and paste I would think. It would just be multiple instances in the playlist, not the Shuffle itself.

I ended up getting 6th gen ipod nano. So far I'm liking it. Just perfect size only set me back $76; much cheaper than buying a new stereo system. Simple to use and I can add my grass cutting music on it for this summer. It's all good. Thanks for the help and suggestions.

I would have recommended the SHUFFLE.

I have had a variety of iPods up until 2008 when I got a Touch. My wife got another Nano in 2010, which was nice. However, I wanted to just have 50-something pieces to rotate on three playlists while doing work, lawn, etc. The shuffle has been perfect. All the fancy nano features aren't worth much of a dime, but it is easier to navigate iPods with screen.

Shuffles are small, simple, have a seemingly endless battery life, and clip onto whatever you have.

BTW, I remember burning all my CDs into the computer. From Thanksgiving 2000-Christmas Thanksgiving. 1200 CDs... in those slow PowerMacs. Uhg. What a pain it was. I forget how much I have now. It's somewhere above 250GB, but that includes a half-dozen movies.
