I'm looking for a leather Macbook Air briefcase/backpack/carry case, with pockets, space for other items, such as an ipad, pens, dictaphone etc. Can any suggest anything, picks would be helpful

It has one exterior pocket for documents, a newspaper or magazine.
One interior pocket for your MBA and one smaller interior pocket for an iPhone and a couple of pens.

This is my next purchase for my MBA. Vaja cases are nice too but holds nothing more than the MBA itself.

I just got the Waterfield Cozmo bag in the mail yesterday. So far I love it and I'm very impressed with the quality of the bag, would definitely order again.

I just got a Brenthaven off of ebay. In fact it was like new, and Apple had made just for them a couple of years ago. It cost $15.00 and is perfect. I can carry my Mac Air 11, ipad and kindle. Plus there is room for wallet, cell phone, nano and accessories. All in a nice sized bag. If you search for Brenthaven, it will be the one that is blue and black. The guy only has one left.

That bag looks awesome. Does it have an inside zipper pocket to protect the air as it seems? Have a link?
It looks even better in person and feels amazing with high quality materials used. No that's an incase 13" sleeve that I had for my old Macbook and reused for the MBA. I'll be replacing that with the g-form sleeve when they come out. The second picture shows what the bag looks like empty. There's one large pocket with a velcro strap that's actually big enough to fit my 13" MBA but I fill it with my superdrive and power adapter extension cord. On the other side there are two smaller pockets with an even smaller pocket inside one and an ID holder in the other. On the outside there are two large pockets, one on each side, with zipper pockets inside of them. You can fit a lot in this bag!
