Best memory distribution on riser cards

I have two 4GB and four 512MB dimms. What would be the best way to dispose them on the riser cards?

The two 4GB on slot 1&2 of riser A and the four 512MB all on riser B.

I'd replace the 512MB DIMMs with 1GB DIMMs, preferably 2GB, if you can. I see on eBay you can get them quite cheap now.

This is because optimally you have the same amount of memory on each riser, and you use dual-rank DIMMs and you fill all the memory slots. 512MB DIMMs are single rank (as are some 1GB) and there is a big imbalance on how much you have on each riser.

It's a Mac Pro 1,1
