hi, i want buy 8gb for my macpro 08 (have 2gb) so I want have 10gb... which memory is the best? I see the OWC

$314
OWC Memory 8.0GB 2 x 4.0GB Kit PC6400 DDR2

is good? or other better brand or?

helpppppppp! thanks

OWC RAM is good, but so is the "iRAM" brand that NewEgg (and other palces, I imagine) carries. I have a pair of 4GB sticks from iRAM and they work great.

But yeah, OWC is the "gold standard".

I bought my 8GB from OWC about 2 years ago. One of the modules failed recently and was replaced by them free of charge (actually I had to send the pair). Because of the pricing and lifetime warranty, OWC is the place where I "go" for RAM :)

seems like you've made up your mind already... But just in case you'd like to know. I had an experience of using Kingston ram in 2008 MP. I bought it directly from Kingston and it was running non-stop 24/7 for 2 years. I absolutely had no problems with it. This year I also got Kingston memory for my new MP.

kingston or owc if both working... have both same performance? I mean both give same speed etc...? if yes kingstone can be a good choice for save around $45

Wait a moment - your 2008 MP should be an 8 core, with 8 Ram slots - why buy expensive 4GB sticks if all you want is a total of 10 GB ?

On my MacPro like yours, I have 8 slots, 2 have the stock 1gb and the have 4 2gb ram.

Now I wonder what my next set of ram should I get for the remaining 2 slots.

for that reason I think that is best buy 2 x 4gb for leave empty others for future, the difference in money is just $40 in OWC:

buy 4x2gb ram $275
buy 2x4gb ram $315

by the way, how you feel running with 10GB? Im start feel slow with my 2GB

by the way said:
10GB is great, but when I run a bunch of power apps I want more RAM, so it seems that the more RAM the better. That's why I'm contemplating adding 2 more sticks, but not sure if it is worth it.

In my opinion, the best '08 Mac Pro RAM is RAM that work without ECC errors, has the proper heatsinks, and is cheap. They all come from the same few OEM suppliers anyway. I don't understand the love affair that so many seem to have with OWC.

Memory America RAM FTW

I bought 4 x 2gb modules from these guys in 2008 then another 4 x 2gb in 2009 when the price crashed along with the Dollar vs. Pound.
Since then 2 modules went faulty in just under 3 years, they replaced the whole consignment of 4 modules each time one failed, for free!
Lifetime warranty FTW.
Running 4 matched pairs of 16gb total is fantastic, never run out of memory while multitasking and pushing all 8 cores, awesome.

Check out the 4GB ones here:http://www.memoryamerica.com/apple-mac-memory-desktop-mac-pro--2006-2008--memory.html
$265 for a pair. With Apple heatsinks ofc.

interesting! mmm at this point and see a lot choices I dont know which I should buy :(

Well, it's cheap because it isn't the ram you need.

The Mac Pro (early 2008) uses FB-DIMMs (fully buffered dual in-line memory modules).

You can get a general idea about price level here.

16GB is $539.99 ...

ups, thank you

well I think that I go for crucial
