Very new to all this but would love some advice on the best monitor to get for my Mac Mini.
I dont play many games or Movies but would use it 99% of the time for processing photographs.
Anyone help me out ? I would be very grateful.
My Mac Mini is a 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo running Mac OS X version 10.6.5.
Budget is around the £200 GBP mark.
Thanks
Gavin

For photographs which would be the best ?

Dell Ultrasharp 2209WA 22-Inch Widescreen

Dell Ultrasharp U2311H 23" Widescreen Monitor

Samsung EcoFit P2370 23" LCD Monitor 16:9 Full HD

ViewSonic VP2365wb - LCD display - TFT - 23"

LG W2486L 24" ULTRA THIN 'LED' FULL HD 1080P

or anyone any other suggestions within the £500.00 mark

cheers
Gavin

Dell Ultrasharp U2311H 23" Widescreen Monitor

Samsung EcoFit P2370 23" LCD Monitor 16:9 Full HD crap

ViewSonic VP2365wb - LCD display - TFT - 23"

LG W2486L 24" ULTRA THIN 'LED' FULL HD 1080P crap

U2311H or VP2365WB, £500 is a big difference.

For Photoshop, any monitor can do but preferably an IPS panel like the Dell Ultrasharp series.

And please don't forget to calibrate your monitor.

i got a lg w2340 23 in that is a great monitor it has vga dvi and hdmi ports and it will actually output on the vga the 1920 by 1080 rez which suprised me

Dell Ultrasharp 2209WA 22-Inch Widescreen

Dell Ultrasharp U2311H 23" Widescreen Monitor

Between these two, the 2209WA has an edge in image quality. You basically sacrifice lcd resolution for more/better backlights and panel quality.

Bump. I ordered a mac mini 2.5 ghz off of ebay.

I like the viewsonic models so far.

Any other suggestions?

(Keep in mind I want something that goes well with the mini)

Another vote for the Dell, my friend has one and it's a great monitor! IPS panel is nice if you're into photography. (I'm running my Mac Mini on a 50" Samsung Plasma but if I ever go dual monitor it will be with the Dell).

I have an ASUS PA246Q a stunningly good monitor.. but, I won't pretend, its not pretty... but then it was bought with one purpose primarily in mind. Photo processing.

"P-IPS panel that provides 98% of Adobe RGB coverage and 1.07-billion colors; 130% more color compare with conventional LCD monitors. Each PA246Q is pre-calibrated with a maximum Delta E of less than 5."

just as an aside.. 1.07 Billion colours.. compare that with the Apple effort: 16.7 Million. makes the Apple TBD look rather poor. imv.

also.. one nice touch.. built in card reader plus USB hub. which is very handy and means the Mini can be placed in a less than readily convenient position.

I own a Dell ST2320 bought on Amazon warehouse deals for £120 and it works perfectly, Amazing picture quality. Very thin as well and surrounded by a gloss black bezel, not bad looking either. And it connects with HDMI as well unlike some other Dell monitors. No speakers though but I had my own ones anyway so didn't bother me

I got an Apple cinema display 24 inches used for $500

simply the best screen I never had. Doing photography on this is a pure pleasure for my eyes

Well you asked for the best - not the cheapest monitor. So I'd suggest...

Apple 27" LED Cinema Display. Still selling at the Apple store as a refurb for $849.00.
http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/displays

Use a Mini DVI to Apple Cinema Display adapter for connectivity. - $80.00
http://www.amazon.com/Kanex-C247m-Display-24-Inch-27-Inch/dp/B004HW67TA

I still haven't seen anything that looks better esthetically or with image quality.

A local bestbuy has this monitor for $700. A floor model and I'm bit hesitant to get it though it comes with a 1 year warranty. Would I get the 2560-by-1440 resolution with it?

A guy on craigslist is selling the same monitor for a similar price. Woudld I need an adapter for this as well? Wouldn't I lose some picture quality using the adapter?

I am quite pleased with my Dell U2410, and the U2412's are supposed to be just as good. Priced about $350-$400

Marketers love people like you.

Protip: Human eyes can't distinguish between that many colors at once.
