Hi,

I want to add a monitor to my Macbook pro 16' (2019) but I'm reading a lot of bad stuff so I would like recommendations of people about their setup. I do a little gaming and watch movies but nothing crazy. Main use will be work.

My priority was an ultrawide 34' monitor (LG, DELL) but I read way too much bad stuff about blurry fonts and bad scaling. My 2nd thought was 2 small monitors (like 2 x 24') but I'm afraid that my macbook fans will just scream all the time. So I'm open for one large 27'/32' screen as well. As long as it respects these 2 points:

- clear/crisp screen, no blurry fonts and weird resolutions/scaling because my work includes a lot of reading

- Macbook doesn't heat up and fans are not getting crazy with adding the monitor or the monitorS

My budget is around 800$ but don't hesitate to post if you love your setup and it respect my 2 criterias. I really want one ultrawide but after a lot of researches I don't find one that seem to work flawlessly.

So please comment if you have an Ultrawide/27'/32' or double monitors and you're happy with it (crispy fonts and your mac doesn't get too hot) .

Thanks a lot

Does your 16-inch have a 5600M GPU or a 5500/5300M?

Text looks outstanding with the Dell U2720Q/U2720QM. I'm using two of them with the clamshell open, although I have a 5600M GPU, which does not have the high power draw issue the other GPUs have.

Thanks a lot for your answer,

I have a 5300M ! 2x27' will be too big for me, but maybe one can do the trick already.

It looks really great gonna add this model to my watchlist.

I really like them, but do note your model GPU will generate a lot of heat if you are using an external display with the clamshell open and it can result in more fan noise and sometimes result in some performance loss. With the clamshell closed, you may or may not have this issue. It seems very monitor and situation dependent and it is hard to say which displays will or will not cause an issue for what users.

Yep I'm aware of that that's why I was trying to find people with the same config to not get this issue. Seems like it can change from any screen to any macbook pro. I just get the Dell U2720Q, we will see ! It's only one display and the 5300M is not that bad.

Thanks for your recommendation

I'm also looking for a good ultrawide monitor for my 16" MBP (2019) I have the 5500, though.

I'm currently using 2 monitors, a 23" and a 24", both provided by my employer. One is HDMI, and the other one is DP. I'm looking at a single ultrawide to free a port. Has anyone here use the Samsung CJ791 (34") with this computer?
