What are the best NVIDIA cards that can run on the MP 1.1? While I'm likely getting the upcoming MP, I'm looking for a temporary boost for my current machine when using Davinci Resolve and Premiere with RED footage. My 1/8th performance is ok, but could be better.

Already have an ATI 4870, so a single slot card would be best. Powering another card may also be an issue.

You want Nvidia for CUDA? The 8800GT is the fastest Nvidia that officially runs on the 1,1. It needs to be the 1,1 version with the EFI32 on it.

Just because of the EFI32 you won't be able to use other Mac Pro Nvidias or flashed ones for that matter. However, some have been succesful in installing a later-generation PC Nvidia *alongside* a Mac Nvidia card such as the 7300GT.

STOP! I'd recommend the Radeon 6870. The PC version works GREAT in my 1,1 MP WITHOUT flashing. It's also cheap.

The only downside is: You don't get any output on boot until the Apple shows up.

he said he wants CUDA ... so thats nvidia.

You know what, for your box ( a 1.1 ) id reccomend searching macvid cards on ebay and buying 1 of theyre gtx460 cards... i have one running great. Its still a valid card. Mines running fine with a gtx120 installed in another slot.

Also i feel like this card pretty much maxes that box out. just my opinion dont school me too hard for it.

The RED performance wouldn`t encrease with a NVIDIA Card. Therefor you need a RED Rocket card. NVIDIA cards just take care about the effects (for example in Premiere Pro).

Cheers

Jester,

For Resolve on a 1,1, you may want to look at this kit that macvidcards sells. It gives a GT 120 (GUI card) and GTX 285 (GPU card), both flashed for EFI-32.
