The only reason I am tempted to buy a refurb is if I got about £200-£300 off. Apple's refurb are only £120 cheaper than brand new and for that price difference I might as well buy brand new. Apple Care is not something I'm interested in either. Hence why I am looking at third party vendors instead. There are a few online but not sure what's trustworthy?

Well, that is the thing. If you buy an iPhone from Apple you will know they are trustworthy. I have bought refurbs off of Apple and I can assure you you will not be able to tell the difference from a new one. It depends how much you are willing to pay for peace of mind.
I suggest you read this. Macrumors did a excellent article on third party iPhone parts which is most likely what you will be buying when buying refurbished from a vendor that isn't directly Apple.
