Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum; but I have really enjoyed reading the iPhone forums here so far. Anyway, I am finishing up doing my "homework" before I go out and buy the iPhone 3Gs (first smartphone for me).

I was wondering what everyone's experiences were when they bought their phones and had them activated. Is the best place to do it at an Apple Store, AT&T store, Best Buy, or can I easily order the phone online and have it sent to my home and activate it myself? I already know what I want, so I'm ready to say no to the sales pitches :D

Also, when my contracts expires with my current provider, I would like to port my number to AT&T. Is that an easy process? TIA.

I got lazy and ordered the iPhone 3GS from the Apple online store. It was very easy to do and no hassle at all. My iPhone 3GS got shipped from Canada though and I don't understand that. Maybe because of the outrageously high demand for these iphones? Don't know. I ordered it on a Friday, I got it on a Tuesday which suppose to be 2 day Fedex but hey, it was the weekend and shipping was free. If you're patient, just buy it online. You'll feel better buying it from online and filling out stuff online rather than paper work.

Online would be easiest. Just buy it from Apple / AT&T and once you get it just open itunes and sync and youre good to go!
