I’ve had pretty good luck with Craigslist. Just meet in a public place, and watch out for scams.

I use Jay Brokers, out of Atlanta. Honest, reliable and safe. I'e sold all kinds of stuff, maybe a dozen times so far over the last few years, and no problems. You may get a better price on Craigslist or eBay, but there's zero chance you will get scammed on jaybrokers.com

@Rafterman, thanks for this recommendation for Jay Brokers. I’d almost given up trying to sell my 12.9 MK as a standalone, but they’re taking them. Cash For Your Mac will take them but it has to included with an iPad trade, which I didn’t want to do. Got a decent enough offer from JB, and it’s on its way with UPS.

I’m in the small minority of users who ended up not liking the MK, so am glad to get a little something for it.

Well, I usually have good results with Craigslist, but after a week of no bites on my 3rd gen. 12.9 (except for an offer to trade for something I had no interest in, and a couple of obvious scam emails), I went to Jay Brokers and got a price that, although considerably lower than I think I could have gotten locally (if I had the patience to wait for the right buyer), was "good enough" (considering I don't have to do anything else other than box it up and ship it to them, at no cost) to pull the trigger. Also went ahead and added in my Apple Watch Series 4, for which they gave me a price that was probably net about the same as I would have gotten on Ebay minus the fees.

Exactly. Cash in hand only. I’m sure everyone here is aware of the certified check scam, but just in case you’re not - one of the most common scams on CL is the certified check scam. They will say that they can’t meet up but they’ll send you a “certified check“ and will even say that you can wait for the bank to clear it before you send the item out. This is a scam, by law (in the USA at least) the bank has to authorize it right away so it looks like things will be good, but then up to a month later when the bank finally realizes it was a fake check they will remove the money from your account, so you lose the money and the item you sold.

Often the scammer will try to sweeten the deal by saying they will pay extra for the trouble or whatever - basically cash is king. Cash in hand, in person only.

Yes, this is exactly what one of my scammers tried... said they would overnight a check for $100 more than my asking price. I thought about proceeding with it anyway (pretending that I didn't know it was a scam), just to make them go through the trouble and expense of sending the check, but I didn't feel comfortable giving these people my address.

The Magic keyboard was only my second favorite keyboard. I use the Logitech Combo. It turns the iPad into a Mucrosoft Surface Pro with keyboard. Back protection, with a magnetially attached backlit keyboard/cover. Its great if you want to save the weight of the keyboard for tablet mode and still have back protection. Plus, like the MK, it uses the iPad connection and not bluetooth - and it has function keys.

Swappa and r/HardwareSwap are good places. Always had a good experience as a seller, and have bought off Swappa as well with no issues.

Some of the decision comes down to whether you prefer to sell/trade to a company or to individuals. To protect my privacy I’m more comfortable dealing companies (including Apple in-store trades, Best Buy trades if it’s competitive, CashForYourMac.com and MacMeAnOffer.com). It’s the reason I’ve avoided Swappa even though it has a good rep and lots of recommendations from MR members.
