Hey Everyone,

I am in the market for a portable hard drive with firewire 400 connectivity. Any suggestions from my fellow esteemed posters?

Thanks!

It's really hard to find a cheap FW harddrive... I have yet to find one. they are all USB which I hate.

I actually have a couple of these with 160GB drives in them and love them.

just a thought.

now wait... you say portable... we are all giving you bus powered harddrives (don't have to plug it into the wall) which are going to be WAY more expensive.

You can get full size harddrives (like the WD mybook) real cheap that are "portable" but chained to a wall.

I've been searching for INEXPENSIVE Firewire drives, and came up with couple of options - mostly at buy.com.

I really like the LaCie Porsche designed portable drives but they have been discontinued. You can find them at buy.com though (80GB for $99):

The Maxtor One Touch 4 Plus is larger, but a steal at 250GB for $109:

I have also seen Iomega 120GB portable drives for around $120.

There are lots of bargains out there if you look for them. Pricegrabber.com helps alot once you know the brands and model names. Buy.com had a great search engine where you can filter results buy interface, drive size, cost, etc.

I ended up getting 3.5" Smartdisk Crossfire 250GB drives for $80 from buy.com, but those appear to be gone now.

Anyone know something like the My Book that is Firewire? I am looking for 500gb, and not too expensive, although I don't mind it being stuck on my desktop most of the time.

Lacie Little Disk?

Anyone know where I can find Lacie Little Disk 250 gig with firewire for a reasonable price?

Everywhere I look it's out of stock. This is the one I want...it'll look so sexy with my Blackbook.

but the cost per gigabyte of those drives are so high..... If you buy from the right place, you can get a bare 500gb drive for 75 dollars.

You may want to just go USB if you want cheap.

Thanks for all the advice. I went with the LaCie Little Disk 250 GB USB 2.0. Firewire was not only out of stock, but a lot more expensive. Got 10$ off by using Google Checkout too. Total of 156$, not too shabby.
