I just ordered a Mac Studio Max (10 core CPU/32 core GPU; 64GB RAM; 1TB SSD) from B&H and theoretically it will be delivered tomorrow.

Other than having multiple backups of my 2009's boot drive (Time Machine x2 and SuperDuper! x2) are there any recommendations for easing switching from the 2009 Mac Pro (purchased new way back then) to the Mac Studio Max.

I could do a Migration which would be easiest, but don't know how much cruft is going to transfer over also possibly causing issues. I could install everything from scratch but that would be EXTREMELY painful.

Also, how do I avoid having old admin vs new admin battle things out?

Any and all advice requested regarding above questions and those I haven't thought of yet.

Do a clean install, manually move over data, install all your apps/plugins one by one...

It really doesn't take as long as you think. Quicker than dealing with all the headaches from bringing all the intel junk over to your new Mac Studio
it's how I've always done it!

Just clean install programs and keep everything else on iCloud haha

I successfully migrated from a 2019 (Intel) Mac Pro running Monterey using Migration assistant, went much better than I expected and I use a pile of copy protected audio software.

Your 2009 probably doesn't run Monterey, but hey, try it and see how well it works. If it doesn't work out you can always do a fresh install.

I starting setting up the new Studio Max yesterday and had also come to the conclusion that I could always start over if the Migration didn't work satisfactorily. So far, so good.

I used an external hard drive with a Time Machine Backup to import everything from my MacPro 5,1 with Big Sur and Open Core Legacy Patcher. After more than one week I cannot report any substantial problems other than a few programms that produced an error (something like „app corrupted, please install again from the App Store“) on launch. After doing as advised, everything works smoothly.

I also migrated from an old Intel iMac using migration assistant. Apart from the time it took, I didn't have any major problems, although two apps needed to be re-installed.
