Now that Apple seems to be no longer interested in refreshing 27 iMac I've started thinking about upgrading my 2013 one. I'm gonna be looking for best graphics configuration available because I do 3d rendering and game occasionally - I'm talking m295x, m395x, Radeon 580 Pro, 5500XT etc. I know some of them have problems with overheating. Judging from your experience what is the most power efficient, coolest iMac with good graphics prior to 2020?

Not sure why you don't include 2020 iMac.
The best and most efficient Intel iMac for graphics is the 2020 iMac with i7 CPU and 5700XT GPU, hands down.
The 5700XT is an exceptional GPU.
The i9 is not much better than the i7, and runs hotter (10 cores instead of 8).

The 'white lines' and 'corners' issues were fixed in 2020. There is still an intermittent issue with True Tone but I've only seen it on wake/shutdown and it fixes itself after a second or two.
The two-tone True Tone issue in shutdown is cosmetic and an annoyance.
The more serious issue that happened with the white line glitches when running macOS (it never appeared in Windows), was resolved in September, 2020.
