I am looking for something that covers the track pad, the wrist rests, and the top and bottom casing of the laptop. Basically the whole laptop. I will go clear or colored, i just want good protection that is very easy to apply and is not rediculously expensive

invisibleshield.com

I just want to warn about invisible shield on the black macbook. It's VERY hard to apply nicely and tends to get bubbles and look bad unless you apply 100% right. I've tried several times and then just gave up. I'd suggest:

-palmrests, trackpad and trackpad button: moshi palmguard

- Top and bottom: maybe speck or techshell cases?

Truth is, the black macbook doesn't really scratch that easily. It just smudges and attracts nasty looking fingerprints like a fingerprint magnet. If you don't care about the smudging, I wouldn't really bother with the invisible shield or hard plastic cases.

That's what I plan on getting myself. To me, the palmrest and trackpad cover is a must -- finger oils on the trackpad not only looks ugly but affects handling as well.

And you can never be too safe when it comes to accidents. Plastic case + sleeve + padded bag!

I got my techshell today. Hmm, quite disappointed. There are bits that are poorly cut and look rough and ugly. More importantly though is that it noticably reduces the already very limited tilt of the display. It also does make the macbook seem much bigger and more clumsy. Don't like it at all, even if to me it looks nicer than the speck case.

I would *maybe* pay 20 bucks for it, but not $59. In any case, it's going back today - out of sight out of mind. Not worth it.

invisible shield, available at Shieldzone.com.

Protected my Black Macbook flawlessly, although over time the shield bears the scratch marks so it doesn't look that great. But that's just a sign that it's doing its job.

just in case, BestSkinEver has the same product but like half price :D

Yes, but the lifetime warranty of invisible shield is pretty useful when it gets scratched, which it will. And I've found that if you mess up the first time, they'll send you a new one (and there's a great chance you'll mess up when applying these things...). It really depends...

There are differences between the quality of the shields. I can't speak for BestSkinEver, but I had an ApplePeelz skin for my Powerbook G4 and it was not good.

The problem with ApplePeelz was that the shield was just a thick vinyl sticker, so it was very difficult to apply. Even though I sprayed enough liquid to apply it to, there were many bubbles that never came out, and liquid still "trapped", weeks after I applied it. Plus afterward, the feeling of the clear vinyl was not pleasant, especially on the wrist rest area.

On the other hand, the InvisibleShield went on much smoother on my Macbook. The weren't as many bubbles in the process of laying down the sheets, and I think a large part of this is because the Invisible Shields are more "flexible", so they are more rubbery. The downside to this is that over time they will move a little bit in whatever direction they are stressed. For instance, my MacBook wrist rest area started moving 2mm to the left because of the pressure from my palms. I ended up removing the shields inside and just keeping them on the top and bottom.

so i think i should just go with the invisible shield then

They';re nice BUT very very hard to apply on the black macbooks, especiallyt he top part. Just keep that in mind. It's exceedingly difficult to get it on without bubbles, smudges etc.

i never really liked "sticker" type protection..if its difficult to put on, difficult to pull off then what's the point? reminds me of those basically permanent sticker type book protectors back in the day...I hated it especially those green tinted ones.

I have a speck case i got 34 bucks on ebay. I just didnt want to pay 50 dollars for plastic.
