Hi,

I'm looking for a good replacement for the Voice Memos app.

What I need:

- Small-enough files (recordings in Voice Memos can take up a lot of space)
- Decent file-management, so I can comfortably transfer these files to my Mac and organize them in folders (going through iTunes with Voice Memos is just awful)
- Hopefully a nice UI
- Preferably free

Ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I use Recordium Pro app (https://itunes.apple.com/in/app/recordium-pro-voice-recorder/id637494062?mt=8). It can record in various formats and with different bitrates. The most innovative feature is that it can stop recording when there is silence and automatically resume recording when it detects sound. I'm happy with it. I got it free while it was on sale.

It solves the management issues pretty decently in the app itself, with folders and tags. However, how does it work with the Mac? That's one of the most important things to me.

Hi, I revive this thread because I'm still on this quest. Could you, dear community, come up with some suggestions?

I tried Recordium, and though I really liked some of its features (such as folders, tags, and the ability to select the quality of the recording and therefore its size), the app is abandonware at this point so I prefer to avoid it. Damn, it hasn't even been updated to support the iPhone 6 resolution!

I have tried using Audio Memo App https://itunes.apple.com/ae/app/audio-memos-free-voice-recorder/id304075033?mt=8 for recording my lectures, found fruitful.

I like the app called Recorder & Editor:iSaidWhat?!

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/recorder-editor-isaidwhat/id345273683?mt=8

Apparently the editing feature works very well, but I don't use it. I record talks & speeches and like it because of the great volume button. And...it's easy to just email it to yourself, to further work with it how ever you want.

I'm sure it does a lot more than I know, but as I already use it however I want, that's good enough for me. It costs $3.99, but that wasn't an issue for me.

Thanks for your suggestion, but that clearly seems to be abandonware too. Its UI is from the pre-iOS 7 era!

@richard.laay I tried the app you mentioned—but it lacks a lot of features. I need to organize my recordings in the same app.

Is there some golden standard on this field? I see dozens of small apps that are ugly as hell.

Ugly as hell but seems to cover all of my needs. I'll give it a try.

Its free, cover all your needs, and the UI is simple and functional. I wonder what recorder app you consider a beauty?

Just Press Record seems to have a professional designing team behind it.

But you are right. Considering that it does everything I need to, the lack of a crafted interface is secondary.

It doesn't seem to support folders though. On the other hand, it relies on iCloud Drive—and I just don't trust "the cloud" when it comes to my voice memos.

The folders it creates automatically are by date recorded. The files are physically downloaded to your machine and can be organised however you like (as an example, I move mine into Dropbox).

I'd be curious what there isn't to trust about cloud storage. iCloud drive is robust for basic file sync and has file restore for stuff you accidentally delete.

1. That system doesn't work for me. I need to manually create folders according to the type of recording (interview, memo, speech, etc.)

2. Though I don't trust the cloud on the technical side (reliability issues and even disasters can always happen on a computer that you don't handle by your own, as history has proven more than once), my concerns are more on the privacy side. More often than not I have contents in my recordings that I definitely wouldn't like to be exposed.

I appreciate your feedback anyway :).

In the end I went with Recordium, which I've been using for months. Its interface hasn't been updated to support the 4.7" screen, and it has some other annoying minor issues, but it does everything I need.

Still, far from being perfect.

Sometimes I think I'll need to develop my own app, lol.

Hi...I realize this thread is 8 years old but thought I'd throw caution to the wind since you were a Recordium user. Recordium was (as you may now) abandoned a while back and I'm looking for a replacement that allows for folders within the apps storage that I can record directly to...as opposed to having to organize later. As well as tag audio files while recording. Wondering if you or anyone came across something that had the feature-set of Recordium you can recommend?

In fact I’m on the same search again but on the iPad. The stock app still doesn’t cut it for me.
