Adblock plus gets paid to allow ads

I read this so often, but it’s simply not true. They set up rules for acceptable ads and every ad that doesn’t comply with this won’t be whitelisted. They do ask money from the biggest advertising services, like Google and Microsoft, but they aren’t taking bribes or anything. Most advertising agencies don’t have to pay anything and you can’t buy your way in either. There is no evidence that suggests Adblock Plus is deceiving their users. Either you opt-out and won’t see any ads or you accept some ads, but not annoying ones. If they were lying in relation to both, they wouldn’t be so popular.

On topic (some of these you have to search for elsewhere):
  • Ghostery: blocks third-party trackers (more than just advertising)
  • NoMoreiTunes: prevents Safari from opening iTunes automatically
  • Text2Link: turns unclickable URLs on websites into hyperlinks
  • Link Text Selector: lets you temporarily turn a hyperlink into plain text to copy the link text
  • Clean Links for Google / DirectLinks: removes the click trackers on Google web search that Google uses to record your clicking behaviour

Basically all the ones Apple are advertising on their page. They work well with their iOS and Mac apps.

- Evernote
- 1Password
- Pinterest
- Pocket

Also adblock plus. Seriously.

this is an extension that lets you upload images to imgur by right-clicking an image/share upload to imgur

http://www.simplicate.info/imageshareur/

Usage
Within OS X apps that support image sharing, click the share icon (or cmd-click for the Share… menu) and select ‘Upload to Imgur’. After confirmation, the image will be uploaded anonymously to Imgur, you will receive a messagebox with the image url.

it doesn't take you to the imgur website, a popup comes up with copy link

For ads, I've been using uBlocker for a while and works like a charm, no ads anywhere, using just a few filters. Otherwise 1Password is a must for me too.

uBlock - Best ad blocker around. Nothing comes close. (I'm willing to try the new Content Blockers again, but I think they need time to mature and be able to block youtube ads and other video ads without a hiccup.)

ShutUp - Because I cannot stand to have to see the idiot opinions of others in the comment section of articles, it blocks them completely. I've noticed I'm a happier person without having to read such drivel.

LastPass- Because I use Android and Windows as well, so iCloud keychain has no point for me.

I'm always on the lookout for others that might be fun, but I worry that loading too many will slow browsing down.
