Best site for hosting GB's of family photos/videos?

My family wants to start hosting our photos/videos in the cloud so we can all easily access/save them across the globe (we're all scattered).

It seems after doing research the two best options are Crashplan or Amazon (as one of us is a prime member). Thoughts on choosing between these two? Or maybe any others? The two things I care about are
1 - The ability of multiple people to access the account
2 - It's easy to use (not all of us are as computer literate as others)

Have you considered a mirrored NAS drive with permissions and user accounts? I think I'm going to go down that route when I can afford one.

I currently use the iCloud Photo Sharing for family snaps and such likes. I have my family members invited to albums and they can upload and share. I think each album can hold a combo of 5000 photos and videos. We're currently at 4600+ I think so I'll need to start a new album soon!

What would the advantage of a NAS drive be over a doing cloud hosting? I hadn't thought of it.

I'm maybe not the best person to ask as I don't actually have one yet. It was just a quick suggestion but I do like that a mirrored NAS would let me control the files from a physical location. As for security, I'm not sure if it will be more secure than Amazon etc as it will be linked to the internet through usernames / passwords and your router or modem. The NAS being in a physical location carries the risks of theft, fire etc whereas the cloud solutions are pretty much 'fire and forget' in that you don't need to worry about data loss quite so much.

Cloud hosting with Amazon / crashplan I guess would be a good option as the sites are easily accessible etc and won't be going anywhere any time soon. They will also take care of any backups etc. Drives on a NAS could fail - that's why I'd probably use a mirrored NAS when I finally get around to buying one.

I would not trust only cloud hosting. A NAS,or maybe just an external SSD with USB/Bluetooth/wifi would be a better way to solve it.

I'd suggest Google photos as well. You could have certain albums shared with the family that they could all contribute to.

I actually use Amazon for my second backup copy. My only complaint is how slow it is. It has taken about six hours just to upload 100GB of RAW files.

It will take the UK 10 years to catch up to that sort of speed.
I'm on "Superfast" Fibre at a rate of 30/7 which is rather pitiful in comparison!

iCloud Photo Library certainly satisfies those two requirements.

+1 for Google Photos (as well as Google Drive).

I've just switched from Dropbox and it works well for me.

Icloud Photo Sharing works nice if everyone is on Apple products. If not you could still use it with public links to albums, but I think Google Photos is better geared towards cross-platform sharing.

PS! If everyone needs access to the original resolution files iCloud Photo Sharing is off the table since they reduce photos to 2048px on the long edge.

Im not sure if Google compress files in shared albums, but either way they will compress the originals if the person uploading them is on a free account.

Don't be too impressed, the vast majority of the US gets less speed than you have.

I think it really depends on how tech savvy you and your family are regarding which solution to go with. AWS isn't remotely user friendly for novices and although I use professionally and personally I wouldn't use it with my family to host a gallery.

The easiest solution I can think of would be to create a new google photos account and create a family shared album that everyone can add to as well as view. My reasoning is that GP will most likely be around a long time so there's a low chance of getting an email one day saying that is being shut down and you have to move your content as well as it's relatively simple to use for most people.
