What is the best actual size and resolution to save photos to put on your iPhone?

I have a lot of photos of my four year old and I would like to put a few of her on my iPhone, hence the question.

Any advice?

Thanks!

when you sync with iPhoto or Aperture it will convert them to a size appropriate for the iPhone

Yup, and it (iTunes) converts your gorgeous images from Aperture/iPhoto to horribly dithered, awful pictures that you can show off on your iPhone/touch. If you don't believe me, try uploading a 480x320 image to a server somewhere, and view it using Safari. Then, try syncing the same 480x320 (or double/triple/quadruple that - knock yourself out, go ahead!) image through Aperture/iPhoto and view it on your iPhone. WORLDS of difference.

I just wish someone could find the plist or whatever tells iTunes to compress our pictures so much, so that we could fine tune the amount of dithering and noise we get. I'll take a slight slowdown if it means I can actually see images clearly ...

does itunes also ignore image adjustments you have done in Aperture. I synced one of my albums with post-processed photos to my iphone, color enhancements, B&W, etc. and when I went to look at them on my iphone it was showing the Master image. Any ideas?
