Hi

I have an early 2008 MP with an 8800GT

It's started to give some occasional glitches so I think it's time to upgrade - but bit confused about what card(s) I should go for....

I run dual 23" ACDs (DVI) and in the not to distant future I want to add a 27" ACD to the mix (MDP) for a 3 display setup.

Could I use a single card to drive all 3 monitors or would I need 2 cards to do this?

The Apple version of the 5770 has 2 MDPs and 1 DVI. Ideally I want 2 DVIs and 1 MDP - would a flashed PC version give me this?

Any advice appreciated - thanks.

ATI 5770 is fine. You can use mDP to DVI adapter to use your 23" ACD in mDP port (you may need an active adapter to use all three ports simultaneously though).

OK thanks...

But what about a flashed PC version - this would mean not only a cheaper card, but also no need for the adaptors right? (saving another $100 or so)

Other than the lack of boot screen, is there anything else lacking in the flashed version? (eg steam / dvd player support)

flashed cards gives boot screen and works fine with dvdplayer, steam etc.

it's the leaked 6870 drivers that doesnt give boot screen, crashes dvdplayer, steam etc.
(but you can fix that too now with netkas updates aty_init (with some tweaks))

Thanks Cindori

I've been looking into the 6870 and it looks interesting...all the right connections.

But am I right that netkas says the ATY_Init won't work on MacPros? or have I misinterpreted that?

"MacPro users – this will not work, for macpro bios of 6870 need to be embeded into Info.plist of aty_init."

Not sure if he's saying that embedding the bios of 6870 into Info.plist of aty_init is possible or not (and I wouldn't have a clue about how to do it anyway)

Also seems that this breaks the second DVI port which I need...

I might wait and see how this pans out - especially with the release of Lion - but having said that my screen just started going crazy again as I was typing this!
