On Windows there's Notepad++ but what is the equivalent on macOS? Looking for something with a very slick, minimal, clean and gorgeous ui. Notepad++ is extremely ugly btw.

Visual Studio Code works for me, but it's over 10 years since I had Windows laptop, so can't compare it to Notepad++. I can tell you it doesn't cost more than Notepad++

I don't know what your needs are, but perhaps Apple's built-in Notes app would do the trick. If you need something more powerful, try Apple's Pages app. Those options are great and sync with iCloud to other devices, and allow for online use when you're not at your computer. And they're free.

But there are a ton of text editors on the Mac App Store, and even more if you search the web (perhaps start at MacUpdate.com).

I don't know what the limit is, but I've had a dozen tabs open without any problems.
Currently, I have about 130 tabs open in VS Code. It has a scrolling sidebar that lists all open tabs, so it's not as unmanageable as that sounds. ;) Obviously, I'm not working on that many files at once, but I do work on many concurrent projects, and I have a number of files I refer to frequently, so saves time having them open simultaneously.

I have heard very good things about the app Notebooks as an excellent repository for all your writing in a robust and clean interface. It also supports WYSIWYG formatting, plain text and MultiMarkdown. It is currently 50% off for Black Friday, so at $18 (MAS) and $20 (Direct Purchase), you get a lot of bang for your buck. The Mac app even syncs over iCloud or Dropbox with the iOS/iPadOS app (also 50% off). They have a free trial on the website linked above to see if it is a good solution for you.

Atom works for me. Notepad++ may be ugly but at least it gets the job done
