Whats the best way to do dropshadows for text and pics in quark, Iam also looking to stroke the text and pics too, ther version i have is quark 6, does quark 7/8 have these built in features?

Quark 6 does not support drop shadows. There are xtensions that you can purchase that can give you that sort of effect. I would highly recommend that you upgrade to Quark 8 or switch to InDesign.

Thanks for the advice, I have been thinking for a while now to upgrade, been using 6 for too long, have there been many flaws with 8, or is 7 more robust etc..

Go straight to version 8. It's such a step beyond ver 7 in terms of feature development, solidity on Leopard/Tiger and interface changes, that it's pointless to take an intermediate step. However, bear in mind, that as per usual, any version of QuarkXpress will only let you save down or export files to the previous version.

I wouldn't advise making a clear switch to InDesign unless you're free from having to use legacy templates and dealing with others who are also using Quark. InDesign takes a little getting used to and you may find yourself frustrated, especially if you're a keyboard shortcut whizz with Quark.
