I'l looking for a good ultrawide monitor for a home office setup. Will be buying later this year. I occasionally game but nothing too crazy; will otherwise almost exclusively use the monitor for work. Higher refresh rate might be nice but not a must-have feature.

I've heard that some ultrawides have issues with macOS and scaling. I know there are software workarounds but was wondering if people have any ultrawide monitors that "just work." I'll be using it with a 14" MBP.

I want to buy used (both for financial and environmental reasons), so I'm looking for monitors that are like $500~ range when new, as I can probably find them for cheaper if used.

Recommendations welcome!

Coming from the 14” MBP, that 34” display will be a massive eye sore I think. At 109 pixels per inch, it will be blurry compared to what you’re used to.

I was in your shoes and decided on a 27” 4K display instead of the 34UW. Loving it!

Good luck.

Get a 4K monitor at the minimum. Anything else will not look as good. I returned a 32 inch FHD and bought a 27" LG 4k.

MacOS doesn't look good on unscaled displays. I recommend getting as many pixels as you can. Standard 16:9 UHD "4K" 3840 x 2160 displays tend to be best inexpensive option. 27" is small for a single monitor. People seem to have trouble with 5120x2160 displays.

Unless your budget can stretch to something which is ultra wide and has a 5K resolution, I'd forget it and get a nice 4K 27" screen instead.
