Best USB-C HUBS i’ve tried: Satechi & Egolggo (QacQoc)

Hi all! I’m work in an Apple Reseller in Italy and we have some good USB-C accessories and I’ve tried many others for my private use or with my friends. Of these many solution, there are 2 very cool ones in my opinion.
I’m not saying these solution fit the best for every use, but for my ultraportability needs they are both very handy. I have a MacBook Pro 13” 2017 with the perfect power user solution at home: Mantiz Venus eGPU with 5 USB-A, 1 gigabit ethernet, 1 SATA and of curse 1 eGPU.

But I bring my MacBook Pro 13” everyday with me for work around the city, so I needed a very light solution.

1- Satechi (ST-TCMAM)
Satechi super USB-C hub comes with integrated cable, and many ports, it connect to 10Gb/s single port. It sports 2 SD slot (Micro and standard), 2 USB-A 3.0, HDMI (4K 30hz) and also a gigabit ethernet (for tech users, yeah I know we are in Wifi era), USB-C only for PowerDelivery. It gets very hot even without Power Delivery. I've found Satechi color much more similar to MacBook Pro Space Gray than Egolggo one.

2- Egolgoo (QacQoc model GN28K)
Super super light, 2 SD (full and micro), 2 USB-A 3.0, HDMI (4K 30hz), another USB-C for data too, and a Thunderbolt 3!!! It miss compared to Satechi the ethernet port barely used nowadays but it is lighter and more compact, it doesn't get hot like Satechi one and you can use USB-C too not only for power delivery.
I found Egolgoo quite fast considering all the ports, I've tried simultaneous copy and the slowdown was little. USB-A 3.0 topped at about 320MB/s which is very good. Thunderbolt 3 bridge is very cool.

The Anble 5-in-1 Multi-Port USB-C adapter is very similar to the Satechi. Similar but not identical design, with 2 USB-A ports + SD Card port on the Anble instead of 3 USB-A ports on the Satechi.

Here's my review:

I'm pleased because all the ports work on my 2017 MacBook, and it supports power delivery via USB-C. Many devices out there have problems with power delivery. The only annoyance is that the USB-C power delivery port is on the front. I'd prefer on the end like on the Satechi or else on the back.

These look pretty solid - if I get to a point again where I've got an external monitor (RIP old ACD 30) and things like that, may give them a try... at this point though I've only plugged devices in to pair them

Yes the are. You can also use them a docking station leaving the plugged with all the peripherals at home. When you are at your desk just plug the hub and you have everything connected.

Explain to me how the QacQoc is a Thunderbolt 3 bridge. I thought they were all USB-c.

So if I plug a TB3 to TB2 adaptor, that port will connect to my Thunderbolt devices.. E.G. Thunderbolt RAID, Apple Display, and old Caldigit TB docks?

I have a single QacQoc (no HDMI) and it only does PD (Power Delivery). I just want to be clear as I am looking for something to use with my old TB docks.

Hi! The upper port, the one with thunder logo, works as Thunderbolt 3. Indeed I was able to drive my eGPU and system profiler report eGPU connected to full 40GBps. Anyway not a great idea to use an hub for eGPU for sure, since the bandwidth will be lower, but if you have a Thunderbolt 3 SSD disk you could connect it to QacQoc.

Probably but can't confirm.
