I'm starting to get into a bit of flash and was wondering what would be the best version to run on my mac? I've got a G3 iMac at 350mhz and 640megs of ram. I currently have Tiger installed. Should I just get the newest version of flash for OS X, or would I be better off reinstalling OS 9 and using an older version of flash that would run a bit smoother with my mac. Thanks for any advice you can offer.

If you are working in Flash, you really should have the latest version if at all possible. The internet is constantly evolving and to start out the gate years behind is not a good thing. With that said, the playback on the 350 mhz G3 is going to make it difficult to edit your movies for the PC world. Macs generally play Flash a little slower than the PC counterparts and playing the Flash on a slow Mac can be painful. When you are trying to optimize for a PC world this can be a problem. You may make an animation that looks great on your computer but when you view it on a PC it will end up going way too fast. Of course a lot of this will be dependant on what you are doing.
So I guess in a roundabout way, I am suggesting that if you are serious about designing Flash then you should update your computer. If you are doing it for a hobby and for personal use, then you should be fine. Either way, I'd say go with Flash 8 or at the least MX.

I agree, but by "MX," do you mean MX 2004, or original MX. Anyway, Flash 8 will run unusably slowly on the mac you have, MX2004 will be like PS in rosetta, and plain old MX will run smoothly. MX is also very cheap these days!baleensavage said:
Thanks guys. I'm not really doing anything too intense with it, just some stuff for this plasma cool screen we got at work (its a casino). So I will check it on a pc before I put it up though, and it only has a resolutin of 856*480, although i guess thats kinda big for a flash animation. Either way, I do plan on getting a newer iMac within the next year or so, but we'll see what happens. Thanks again for the info.
