Is to open the AppStore now for the current apple tv

Let developers customize there apps or make new apps for the ATV thats out now

I think in this event coming up 6/11 there going to introduce ios 6 of course but also an AppStore for the apple tv
Tim cook at "all things digital" talked about how big of a success the ATV is now and how many they have sold

If they where going to test or give us a taste of what they have in the vaults ,now would be the perfect time

I mean that 1080p and that new UI was just a smoke screen

What do you guys think ? Is the appstore on the ATV due ?

Im excited either way , new iphone ? New apple tv IOS ?
New television ?
IOS 6

is going to be a big event

It sucks we cant watch it live on our iDevices

And maybe the reason why the iphone 5 is taller not wider is because it will double as a universal remote ,a real one like the harmony ones but better

Hmhmm interesting ehh ?

Taller iPhone = better remote ? U can still hold it in one hand

TNW points out that 43 sessions are listed as TBA, a number that is greater then any previous year. This has pundits anticipating big things at WWDC. Big things not limited to iOS 6. While the next revision of iOS should certainly bring upon some major changes for developers, speculation seems to focus on the Apple TV. Not the television, but the $99 Apple TV set-top box that runs iOS. The Apple TV UI recently underwent a major change, but still feels uninspired. A source tells BGR that a new major revision of the Apple TV OS is the same one that will run on the upcoming and still yet unannounced Apple iTV. They suggest that Apple has been reaching out to manufacturers in hopes they will embrace the “control out” API and develop accessories compatible with the new Apple TV OS.

About these 43 TBA events. A good number of them are being held in the Presidio room, the biggest room in the building according to John Gruber, who believes ‘something’s up’.

To me, this is what a preliminary WWDC conference schedule would look like if Apple were set to announce a new developer platform, like, say, apps for Apple TV.

The current Apple TV has minimal storage. If they were to bring apps to the Apple TV, would they introduce a larger capacity Apple TV, or allow for accessing apps through iCloud? Even with a handful of apps, the current iteration of the Apple TV has sold quite well. 2.8 million last year and 2.7 million, just 5 months into 2012. Imagine how well it would sell if it became more then just a hobby for Apple. Perhaps we’ll find that out on June 11th.

iPhones are mobile devices. They are generally something their owner takes with them whenever they leave the house.

Television remotes are (relatively) stationary devices. They are something the owner leaves behind when they leave the house.

When the owner's family/roommates wants to watch something on television while the owner is out of the house, they need a remote. If the remote is an iPhone out with the owner, the owner is going to come home to a very unhappy family/roommate. This won't be a one-time event, but a regularly recurring bout of unhappy family.

Sure, I think the remote app is a great idea for iDevices. However, no Apple television should REQUIRE an iDevice to operate it for the very, VERY common problem laid out above. if the iDevice is an optional, extra remote, great. If it's the only remote, there are all kinds of problems except for the single person living alone.

SJobs would say to that: "You are doing it wrong"

"if you don't have an iDevice go buy one, or if you want other people on the house to have access to it, just get a Universal remote"

maybe im not sure how you would have an app store on the ATV as the ATV does not have a hard drive to store all those apps you want

I guess it could use homesharing to download content to your computer(iTunes) but iOS apps do not run on the computer they just store on their untill you move them back to an iOS device

While AirPlay for ios/mountain lion is a good first step, I really want a real app store for the apple tv. I don't replace a tv very couple of years, and it would be crazy to have to throw out a working tv to get most of the latest features.
The apple tv is cheap enough to "upgrade" a tv every few years, and apple benefits from the halo effect that occurs when passing the older model down to others who wouldn't have bought them new.
Real apps, designed for tv & selected apple inputs (I think both the Atv 2 & 3 have a Bluetooth chip that has never been utilized) would be a great new market.
Let's hope the rumors are true this time. I will be holding my breath during the keynote.

My guess would be homesharing, networked drive access (airport extreme/time capsule), or utilize the USB connection on the back of the Atv 2/3. A remote possibility might be some kind of Bluetooth drive.

the apple TV has an 8 gig hard drive, so there is space. not for huge games or anything, but for basic apps, there's plenty of space.

Predictions:

No Apple TV set: why would they need to build an entire TV set to do what they can already do with a $99 Apple TV and an app store?

Bluetooth gaming controller: Apple "reinvents" the video gaming industry with a $99 Apple TV, an app store, and a $49 controller. Games are streamed, ala onlive.com, rather than stored on the 8gb of flash memory.

Thoughts?

I like that it would mean that any tv and be an apple tv. To be honest the reason apple aren't rushing into this is because the tv market is very competitive with small profit margins and apple doesn't do small they can easily price themselves out of the game. Apple needs to be careful with this because it not as easy as phones, music players or tablets. They maybe be heading towards a tv but not this year or maybe even next an app store or apps on the tv in some way for the tv needs to happen cause in my Samsung tv with apps isn't that great. I would really say there would just be talk of apps on the tv at wwdc because its a developers conference so all the big ios developers will be there and that's what the do they develop apps, a tv set come later on down the line, maybe.
