I know the new one isn't out, but with the previous ATV you could crack and install perian codec to play anything. Converting takes ages so is there anyway you can play a range of different formats in itunes without converting them to apple format and have them stream to the new ATV?

No one knows yet.

Even if they do manage to hack into it none of the existing Apple TV tweaks will work because of the A4 processor (and new operating system) in the new model.

Thanks for the reply.

My thinking was the ATV just takes whatever itunes throws at it, but the issue is with cracking itunes so it can play any format. We'll just have to watch this space and i'll just have to start converting! :apple:

No, you have to load other apps to play the non-supported files.

The standard Apple TV menus on a hacked box still only access the same old iTunes stuff. You need apps like XBMC, Boxee or nitoTV to access and play the other formats.
