Question, I am picking up a new iPhone 12 Pro at Best buy and have to trade in the old phone on the spot to get the trade-in bonus. What is the best way to handle this? Should I backup and wipe the old phone at home before pickup and then just do an iCloud restore once I get home? Or should I wait and try to transfer it in store? Likewise, in that scenario is direct transfer or iCloud better? Lastly, do I need my old phone to get a 2FA code for setup (I do have a macbook at home). Any advice is appreciated. I'd prefer to do it myself versus having a Best Buy tech try to transfer it.

Also, should I unpair the watch from the phone in advance? Do I select to "Keep Cellular" if so?

I would do an iCloud backup as well as an encrypted backup on your Mac (this saves all your app login info) then wipe the phone and restore your new phone from that Mac backup preferably.
Otherwise depending on how much data you have, you can always do a direct transfer in store but it can take on average 20-30 minutes.

What he said. Did this on a 12 & a 12 Pro from 2 2017 MacBook Airs.
