My Airpods case is filthy. I've tried to clean it with a cotton swap/Q-tip and toothpick but no luck. Any advice on best and safest way to clean the case would be much appreciated! Have not tried water or alcohol on a cotton swap as I am afraid it could damage the device.

Damn, that looks like you just dug it up! Anyway, I’d put some rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip and swab up some of the gunk around the lid and the rim of the holes where the pods go into, but definitely not down inside. Then I’d use a different Q-tip slightly damp with water to brush around the sensitive areas (speaker grill, holes inside the case, etc). I could be paranoid, but I’d never let alcohol anywhere near the actual electronic connection areas.

So I work in a machine shop so my airports get dirty very easily. The way I have cleaned mine is by using lacquer thinner. It will take some of the gloss off them over time but I’ve been doing it for over a year and they still work perfectly and look brand new when I do it.
