I have a 20" core duo iMac, and I just gave my room a good dusting (fan and everything). Now I have strands of dust on my monitor that I can't get off. I followed Apples method and tried the damp cloth but it was just moving the dust around (dust has to be really static) and I noticed at one area it put a very faint stratch (which I cannot see unless I am extremely up close and squinting, so I am not going to worry about it). What is the best method of geting it off? Should I soke a cloth instead of damping it? BTW, I am using a handtowel, is that a soft enough fabric?

i got some cleaner from radtech.us

http://www.radtech.us/Products/OmniCleanz.aspx

works wonderfully for my powermac, display, and powerbook

bought the one with the cloth too
Does that cloth last for a lot of uses (I am a tad ocd, you'd be amazed how many times i shift my iMac so it looks straight on my desk). What kind of cloth do they recommend if you just buy the spray?
edit:
I have an amazon prime account (got it for free for a few months) and I notice that iklear and other "klear" products are on there and discounted cheap. Anyone use these and like them? I am also unclear about which particular product to use.
Also, thanks for the suggestion eva01... I am keeping it in mind.

I run one of these over the screen once a day. Rev A iMac looks new.

What about dusting the iMac internally....? AFAIK popping out the front end of the G5 iSight/Intel iMac is inadvisable, and I hate to bring it back to Apple servicing for a fee, nor have my iMac scratched.

My iMac has gained 1 or 2 degree C on CPU temp over the past months thanks to my dusty room. :(

I use microfibre lense cloths, the kind you'd use on a camera lense or expensive pair of spectacles. Nikon do a good one, as do Pentax.

My 23" ACD also came with a rather good one. :)
Ditto.

what about those compressed air dusters? do those work?
sure they do..if its not caked on there.....oh, and dont shake it, or hold it upside down, you can really damage your gear by spraying condensation all over it

Don't bother paying a lot for iClear and stuff like that just for dust. Get a good microfiber cloth and use it to get the dust off.

Cloth hasn't died on me yet
Agreed - they last forever. And you can wash them.

I too recommend OmniCleanz. Dust won't require it, but you'll at times get other things on the screen, and OmniCleanz works very well - also cleans cases and laptops as well. Good product.
