Any idea how best to connect a mac to a samsung HT-C5550 to see video/photo's?

Both devices are not in the same room, so connecting with a HDMI cable is not feasible.
 
Ahh... You're gonna need a HDMI Cable. A really long HDMI cable...

If all you want to do is photos and videos then you could get by with an Apple TV. They are great little devices with built in wireless networking, so no cables needed. I tend to recommend running an Ethernet cable anyway since it is so much better for streaming HD videos.

I am not a big fan of iTunes and an Apple TV requires iTunes.

The media center has a USB port. How about a USB memory stick with wifi? Put things on the memory stick with wifi and have the media center read it via the usb port.
