Best way to do online donations?

I have seen the "Paypal Donate" links around the web, but I've also heard bad things about paypal, that they charge too much, and aren't really that secure.

Anyways, I'm not even sure if I have SSL on my account, but is it possible to install a script myself? I don't know too much about servers, so this task might be a little too advanced for me.

You mean taking credit cards? I think a merchant account is going to cost you too if you don't already have one, esp for low volume.

The beauty of paypal is that its easy to do, and for many people, they don't have to even use a credit card. It's easy to do it spontaneously.

What's the chance that someone is going to write out a check and mail it?

Yeah. As far as contributing to MR I was much more inclined to donate because it was with Paypal...I've got some money in there and it was much easier than having to whip out a credit card and go through the whole credit card processing deal. Safari even autofilled my password for me. All I had to do was click.

Paypal is definitely the way to go.
