Im a college student, and I have very limitied funds...suprised to see I could even afford my g4.

I was just curious, whats the best way to get my hands on photoshop 7??

Is there a student discount on it at all, or maybe a cheap place to get it?

Even then I wont be able to afford it..oh well i guess...

What are my options?

you are dropping a lot of hints... some of us will not like what you may be hinting.

the only way is to go buy via edu. discount. if you are a student, contact your campus computer store and they should have it.

if you are hinting about any "other" ways to get a copy, do so on your own. no one here will help you.

are you talking about PS 8 or 7? if it's 7, which is not the latest, your best bet is to find someone who's selling their copy. you will need to make sure of two things to be completely legal:

1) that the seller removes his copy from his computer.

2) that the seller doesn't "keep" PS 7 by purchasing the upgrade to PS 8. if you upgrade, you cannot legally sell your old program.

hinting??

Im just asking, being new to macs and photoshop and not know what where and what to buy, what is the best way to go about it.
(much like I didnt know apple ram was way overpriced and I could get it much cheaper elsewhere - I didnt know that until someone told me here. this is the same kind of question)

1)I do not know if apple store gives an educational discount on it
2)I do not know if adobe gives an educational discount on it
3)I dont know if there is places like macwarehouse.com or something, ebay even, where the cheapest place to buy it.

and im talking about PS 7. I read reviews that said upgrading to 8/CS isnt worth it unless you absolutely need some of the few new features.

I didnt think asking where to buy something for the best deal was hinting anything other than I'd like to save a little money lol

You're best off to get the whole Web Collection or Design Collection or Creative Suite packaging.

The last time I checked at the school bookstore, it was $399 and $299 for Photoshop alone. This compares to $999/$1299 for the Collections/Suite and $699 for Photoshop.

You might as well get the Creative Suite, if you're going the education route since it's much cheaper to have it all.

apologies if i made myself sound judgemental.

i just thought that your mention of "lack of funds being a student" and "i probably can't afford it anyways" type of comments to mean you were possibly looking for "free" ways to get PS.

links others provided is a good start, no doubt.

by the way, apple store will not give edu. discounts to third party apps software. try going to adobe directly.

They don't? I could have sworn I saw the Macromedia suite on there...

sorry, i may have been premature in assuming that apple stores don't offer third party discounts.

online, yes. they offer "academic" or "educational" versions.

at the retail stores, i am not sure if they carry those versions or not. i tend to remember apple retail stores NOT carrying those versions.

if they do, i'm sure you can get them at discounted prices. if they don't, then i doubt they will sell you the "regular" versions (even if there's no difference from the edu. versions) at a discount.

Don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but check your school. I got Windows XP professional from mine for $20. If your school has a digital art department, they can get you a really good price on photoshop. :D

Can't beat 'em.:)

Actually, you can in some cases:

journeyed.com

Adobe's Creative Suite is more expensive there (by $20), but Acrobat is cheaper (by $15). You just have to compare.

At this point though, youd be lucky to find a version of Photoshop 7, as the CS suite of software is what Adobe is now pushing.

...

We've heard so many of those that it just seems natural to assume someone wants an application for free. Photoshop is probably the #1 pirated application anyway. ;)

I will confirm that the Apple retails stores do NOT offer education software discounts, only hardware discounts. I was told this when I went to purchase Panther.

Anyways, why not look for PS 6 or 7 on eBay? Yes, I acknowledge it might be risky, but it might at least be worth checking out if your funds are seriously limited. I remember when I was a student, $300 was more than my greatest monthly expense, my rent. Granted that was, well, it wasn't that long ago. . .
:)

If you were of questionable morals then you would probably use something like haxial kdx where I was... ahh... heard that... someone was able to get some... stuff... or something. As you obviously aren't morally corrupt (and might I add, posting at a forum amongst other extremely morally intact individuals), you'll go to a retail outlet and pay for it.;)
