What is the best way to get push sms setup so you can use gv mobile as a sms device and know when you have received text messages? I have heard of people using prowl, setting up push gmail and forwarding the text to gmail etc. What works the best for you?

My Google Voice forwards all SMS to my mobileme email. Works well.

Anyone know how to change your primary email away from a gmail address? I would like to set my mobile me email as primary. Or at least forward those SMS messages to a non-primary email.

There was an option there, right by the select email address thing, cuz mine doesn't go to the primary.

Got it. Gotta enable voicemail to email alerts. Then you can send SMS to the same email. Talk about confusing.

You can have google voice forward a copy of the sms message to your gmail account. All you have to do is setup your gmail account so that it pushes new emails to your iphone. This method works pretty well for me, pretty much instantaneous sms notifications.

is there a way to use your GV number for setting up SMS alerts and having those alerts pushed to your email instead of using your text messages from your iphone plan? I couldnt figure out a way to do it.

are you trying to get any SMS messages that are sent to your google voice number pushed to your email account? The method I mentioned before does exactly this.

im able to achieve the outcome (of getting the SMS's forwarded to my email address) but am unable to get my GV number to sign up for SMS alerts such as www.4info.net or yahoo alerts.

I have never tried signing up or those kind of SMS alerts with my google voice number. It may be a limitation of google voice if it does not work.

im sorry im not sure what you mean. I have my SMS messages forwarded to my Gmail.

In your Google Voice settings, when you put in the phone number that you want Google to forward your calls (and possibly texts) to. You have to tell Google what kinda of phone it is (mobile, home, office, etc.). If you have your phone set as a HOME phone Google won't forward SMS to it. That might explain why you're having trouble singing up for 3rd party SMS alerts, I don't know for sure though. Just throwing out ideas.

actually the problem seems to be more with the alerts provider. for example im entering my GV number and it says "unable to detect carrier".
