1. Overall plan is to install a new SSD in HDD main slot and then replace SD with OBHC and install a 2nd HDD (not the original Apple HDD) in that slot for storing large data files.
2. Plan to use MBA SD for any DVD needs.
3. Plan to keep OSX and all Applications on original Apple drive for cloning to SSD after next steps are accomplished.
4. Before cloning this SSD from original Apple drive, I want to move large files, such as iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, email, & Bookmarks to the 2nd drive which I plan to setup as an external drive before it goes into the Mini OBHC.
5. Once those large data files are moved, I then want to delete them from the original Apple HDD before cloning it to the new SSD. By cloning the new SSD I shouldn't have to re-enter all my keychains, preferences, etc. manually.
6.Are there any folder/files I should leave on the original drive for cloning even though the bulk of data-if I do this correctly-will be on what I call the 2nd HDD?
7. How is the best way to "point" the SSD to the data on the 2nd HDD?
8. I understand in iTunes it is best to leave the iTunes Library Database in the "Main" HDD/SSD even though the iTunes Media Folder (which contains the actual media content) is moved to another location. Does iPhoto, iMovie, email, Bookmarks have similar set up one can use like iTunes? I seem to know how to do the iTunes move, but not the others.
9.If so, how does anyone suggest I accomplish what I would like to do above?
10. Further info:
2009 3,1 Mini 2.53/8GB/original 320GB HDD
OSX 10.6.4=4.79GB
iLife "09
Library 13GB
myusername on HD=131GB
Music=117GB-(when I ripped my CD's it was initially about 104GB)
Pictures=6GB
applications=4GB
IMovies are now on a LaCie 8TB mirrored to 4TB quadra
11. If anyone can help-most appreciated since this will all be VERY new to me since switching to Apple about 3 years ago.
P.S.: Once I do this 2009 Mini I will be doing same to another 2010 Mini.
SOOO, no one knows how to do this??
