So I have a MBA from this past October and would like to upgrade.
I don't really sell too many things but I was looking for suggestions?
Do you guys prefer craigslist or ebay? Or should I just try and find a friend who wants to buy it?

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks :)

I've always had great luck on ebay. I'm always amazed at how these wonderful machines hold their value. Just do a search on MacBook Air and check the "completed listings" box to see what they've been getting ($).

Good luck.

+1 on ebay. I've both purchased and sold macbook pro's and imac's there. Also, you might check your local craigslist to see if there is a local market that would be easier to sell on - then balance ebay completed listing prices with those on craigslist. I had good luck selling an imac there. Search this forum for the many Craigslist and Ebay info - be warned that many are literally afraid that people will want to kill you for you laptop if you meet them at your house to show off your computer  - with the Air though, you could more easily meet at a neutral location.

I doubt I can justify selling my MBA having only just bought it last month but I've read others losing very little money by upgrading quickly.

So my question is - is it more cost-effective to upgrade every refresh or maybe every other one? A quick look on eBay isn't encouraging with many MBA still languishing at the £200-300 mark.

Do these laptops depreciate like a car (e.g drop significantly as soon as they are out of the Apple Store and then slow down) or lose value at a steady rate according to age?

I'm not someone who has to have the latest shiniest model but on the other hand, if there are major benefits in upgrading and its better to upgrade sooner rather than later, then I should at least consider it.

You qualify to use the marketplace forum here on MR... I know people that might bite at it in there if you want to sell on the forums :D

+1 for CL at a random location. sold a MBA over it in southern NJ with no issues. and got the value i wanted. YMMV but i think it is better than e-scam.

Ebay or CL. Either or will get you some decent cabbage for it.
Just make sure you meet the folks if you CL it in a public, well-lit, high traffic place.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm trying to sell mine right now as well on both Craigslist and Ebay. I have to say, I'm having no luck whatsoever.

All I get on craigslist is spam and the highest offer I've received on eBay is $1100 even though this is a 13in with 4GB RAM. It's pretty sad really. Not even 3 months old. I'm also including a ton of extras (mini-display to hdmi, superdrive, etc...)

I just can't justify taking a $300 hit, actually more than $300 when you consider all the accessories.

I also requested a powermax trade-in (offered me just $900), while some other site offered me $1010.

Hmm. Do I qualify? I'd love to make a posting on here because most people here know what these things are worth.

I would look closer to home, have you no family members that would jump at the chance of having such a fine computer?
Or you could try a local home, community group or school to see if they would be interested in it.
Obviously you will want to sell it to recover some of tour outlay so I would go the eBay route as you can sell through Paypal protecting you from being stung.
You could also put it to another use yourself at home too, think about it!

Read the fine print on the Ebay sales. I sold an iPad on there, and by the time I finished with theirs and PayPal's fees I essentially took a 20% hit. I'd go for CL first, and then ebay as a last resort. I couldn't sell it to a friend/family in good conscience b/c I was dumping it within a week of iPad 2 being publicly launched.

You're in NY, skip eBay and use CL. You'll lose about 10% off your sale to eBay fees while CL you get your cash and go.

Thanks for all the great suggestions :)

At the moment, I am in the works of making a deal with someone I personally know but, if it falls through, I will try either the marketplace or ebay.

Thanks again!
