Hi all, I have a 2019 iMac with a 1TB SSD. The system was running Catalina up until about 6 weeks ago. I then created a new Volume called Big Sur Beta and installed the beta to that volume. My Catalina environment is still available. I want to move to Big Sur when the GM releases and want to know if I should just copy updated documents and and any other "newly" created data over to my Catalina volume and upgrade from there and delete the Big Sur Beta volume... or do the reverse and upgrade the Big Sur Beta volume and delete the Catalina volume?
1. Is it a cleaner upgrade from the Big Sur Beta to GM? (Is this dependent upon which version we are referring to?)
2. Can I rename a volume without ill effects to any programs and their links to files?
3. Only with Mac a few months after being on Windows for many years and looking for some help from those of you with more Mac experience.

Thanks for any help.

Are you using a Time machine backup, or two?
Also consider investing in cloning program - I'd recommend CCC Carbon Copy Cloner, or SuperDuper.

Then hope for best plan for things going wrong but going from beta to 11.0 should be seamless.

Yes, time machine is in use. I can look at copy software but right now I will have a copy of all my docs, music and photos saved to an external drive as well. What other "backups" would I need?

My main questions have to with the volumes in my drive...
Am I okay just "moving" to the Beta volumes and renaming them to "non" beta. Then removing the old Catalina volume?
