Best way to read .pdf and .doc ?

What do you mean exactly? If the .doc and .pdf are email attachments, you can read them by clicking on them.
If your phone is jailbroken theres a couple of apps available via cydia...Docs is a simle to use app that lists all your files (with certian filetpes...ie, pdf) The one i use is Wildeyes which allows the user to search the iphone sub directories for pdf, word files etc and allows viewing in landscape mode. (seems to be portrait mode only in Docs)
I have some pretty large ebooks on my pc which are in pdf formatt and both these apps handle the file sizes great
