iPod best way to share and sync?

So, I need to figure out how to finalize my setup....

I had been synching my 2 apple tv's off of a 750gb drive attached to my AirPort Extreme, using my macbook as the itunes server.

This was getting too annoying and restrictive (if i was traveling, the family couldn't stream media, etc )

So I've upgraded to the following: Mac Mini, with a raid1 enclosure containing 1TB x2 drives, with the apple tvs synching to that.

Except, what do I do for synching my iPhone and iPods? I mostly just synch the iPhone, and usually did this off of the MacBook....

Is there a way I can synch the iPhone, tethered off of the MacBook, without connecting the raid enclosure to the AEBS? IE, how can I share the drive over the network without making it an iDisk or whatever that is...

I'm a little confused at your question. Why don't you just sync your iPhone and iPods with your Macbook like you always have done? Did you want them to sync with the Mac mini? I think in that case, it'd be easier to get a universal dock, connect it to the Mac mini, and drop whatever you need to sync in the dock. Unless you want to sync many iPods/iPhone at once, then Griffin has a dock that contains 4 docks.
By the way, iDisk is an application from iLife that makes DVDs .

Edit: Did you want to access files from your Mac mini on your Macbook? You can share files between Macs, but usually the files are read only. So you can read a document from your Mac mini on your Macbook, but you can't change the document. And you can't sync your iPod wirelessly that way because you can only share documents, not apps as far as I know.

i just made the drives attached to the mac mini, since thats the master right now, with the apple tvs and all. other than moving the drives to the AEBS again, i dont see how they could be attached to the mini, but still synch via the macbook--but id like to

i dont want to synch with the mini if i can help it. its not in a convenient location for that

Ok I thought you had the music on your Macbook hard drive. The only file sharing as far as I am aware of, is through the public folder. You can listen to the tunes on your Macbook, watch movies and all that, but you won't be able to automatically sync. You can send the tunes from the Mac mini to the Macbook, add it to iTunes and then sync with the iPod, but otherwise you can't just copy it straight onto the iPod. It's kind of like syncing between the Mac mini and the Apple TV, the Apple TV can stream from the Mac mini and play the contents, but it won't save it on its hard drive.

fix one problem, introduce another one

so im thinking about keeping one master itunes drive, attached to the mini, and then a secondary one, just with my media, on the AEBS. its kinda a waste of a drive, but its probably the only way other than syching to the mini, which i guess i could do but i was hoping to aovid....

Do you have a lot of music? iPhone's maximum capacity is 16gb, so I'm guessing your library of music/media isn't going to be bigger than that? If so, why don't you just copy the files on to your Macbook and sync your iPhone with your Macbook? Whenever you download a new tune on the Mac mini, you can send it over to the Macbook and then put it on your iPhone. Sharing files between Macs are a bit like the sharing folder in Windows Live Messenger. You can easily "give" the other computers a file.

My entire library as of today is just under 700GB. That covers music, movies and TV shows.

Most of what is on my iPhone is a few movies and a few hours of TV Shows, plus about 1000 songs. So I can get away without syncing every night (I usually don't sync that often), it was more a convenience thing.

One idea I had considered was just keeping a second library on a smaller drive attached to the AEBS so that I could still do that....just a matter of deciding how big a drive I want to use.

I may end up just syncing via the Mac Mini. Just means I have to change my habits ever so slightly, and sync it before I begin my Wii Fit workout
