never jailbroke my 3gs but i want tethering back. it used to work with the carrier file before i updated and also before mms was out. Whats the best and easiest way to get tethering working good on 3.1.3?
thanks alot
tom

its impossible for your device running 3.1.3. the benm tethering profile is not recognized by the iphone...and there is no jailbreak for iphone 3gs 3.1.3 unless you have the old bootrom...which im assuming you do since you said you could use the benm hack before. so therefore you can jailbreak

you have an iphone 3g, right?

all iphone 3G(plural) are jailbreakable. jailbreak, enable native tethering, done deal

If you have a 3G you can get tethering by downgrading to 3.0 or 3.0.1 and using the Stealth hack.

well if someone in the LA area can do this, I'll gladly pay $20 for an iPhone 3G running 3.0 + tethered

I bought the phone running 3.1 off someone on craigslist

when I downgraded to 3.0, everything worked but my phone could not make phonecalls :/

Others get this to work?

TETHERING on 3.1.3 WORKS!!
This may work with a native 3.1.3 installation, followed by a Redsn0w 3.1.2 jailbreak (applied to 3.1.3 FW).

Can anyone confirm/test?

Sounds intriguing, tho flies in the face of these boards' prevailing logic that you're basically skruued if you're on 3.1.3 with a late-model 3GS AND you don't have a file saved on Saurik's site.

Won't have time to try myself in the next few days, but would be interested in hearing others' experiences trying this.

If you have a jailbroken device and want to tether on 3.1.3, Install the 6.0 carrier file. Then install the trial of MyWi from Rock or the MyWi no Rock and use it to tether. Then SSH in and remove the MyWi app leaving the remnants of the app. Your USB tethering will now work. This works on my 3G on 3.1.3 with the 5.11 baseband on AT&T.

THANK YOU!! I've been having near constant 'call failed' s with 3.1.2 (cuz of what AT&T did to the network I imagine).

Last night my iPhone 3G 16gb (not 3G S) had a bit of a freak out, I went to turn it to airplane mode after a "No Service" and then the phone refused to boot. I relented and restored it which bumped me to 3.1.3. I thought I was screwed, at least for a while.

I can confirm this works with a 3.1.3 upgrade and retains the 05.12.01 baseband.

Thanks again. :D

It is not possible to tether on iPhone OS 3.1.x without jailbreaking.

It is also not possible to brick an iPhone by attempting to jailbreak it. The worst that can happen is that you will have to do a DFU restore. That said, it is not for everyone, you should not attempt it until you know a lot more than you currently do. Jailbreaking is not something that should be done by following a tutorial for an "iPhone newb."
