Hi!

I was looking into external hard drives cause I'm running a bit low of space lately. I thought it would be a snap decision on amazon ratings but...

I'm not exactly looking for a very portable thing, it'll probably always be on the desk so I have more space on my mac pro, and a very fast access.
1-2TB would be more than enough.

I don't even know if I could (or should) upgrade the mac pro itself? Whatever have a cheapest/reasonable ratio.

Advice? Thanks!

Do you have a cMP or nMP? They have different solutions

I have no idea :p Does this help?

^ yes, even if you don't "need" a portable drive, a 2.5" external will be much cleaner than a 3.5" since it is smaller and doesn't require an extra power cord/brick.

2.5" are slower then its 3.5" cousin.
current 2.5" drives are around 100-110MB/s , 3.5" drives can handle 160-190MB/s speeds

The WD Raptor is a 2,5" hard drive, and it is one of the fastest mechanical drives, but you are right with normal 2,5" drives.

Definitely a TB external drive. Something in a raid configuration would give higher speeds than a single drive. There are lots of options available with budget really being the only limiting factor.
