Already have an imac with built in camera in screen but obviously this is fixed and want one that can be moved.

Any recommendations, dont want to go mad money wise as budget is a bit tight at the moment.

Oh, it's like that. I figured that it would be expensive since it's from Apple, but I didn't expect that price tag.
Reason for the high price tag is the Apple discontinued them, so they're a hot commodity to get a hold of. Supply & demand: Macroeconomics 101 my friend. Normal retail price was $149 when Apple was selling them.

And iSight will be worth far less than it is now, once/if Apple gets around to updating it.

Definitely. I'm not sure if y'all have compared the picture quality on the external iSight to the built-in iSight, but the built-in one is so much better AND it's a extremely slight fraction of the size of the original. You can bet the next external iSight is going to be worlds better than the old one. Anybody paying the exorbitant prices for an external iSight is a big sucker. Namely because the next one will probably be out soon, feature the superior technology of the built-in ones, and will probably stay at the old price of $150 ($130 for education students).

does this mean i should sell mine? I don't use it too much, and I have been watching them on eBay in the past few months...many are going for far more than 200, some have gone into the 300s. I've been considering selling mine on eBay, but haven't made the decision yet - what do any of you think? and btw, I have another iSight in my house, hooked it up the G5

EDIT: by the way, sorry for changing the subject, and I would definitely recommend the iSight. I do know that some company makes a mirror that attaches to the top of the screen so you can get a reversed image if you know what I mean....

Personally, I would sell it. You figure you'll make $200 on it. Then, when the new external one comes out, if it's still $150, you basically get PAID $50 to get a new one...

Just ran to the local all-night Wally World and grabbed the Xbox camera after reading this thread. Perches on top of the iMac just fine, immediately recognized, played a little bit with iChat & Yahoo messenger, works perfectly.

If not the best $40 purchase I've made, surely the easiest to implement.
