Since updating to Beta 5 (20A5354i) I have been no where but in a world of hurt...

Just a few of the things that stopped working fine

- Parallels will not run at all anymore. It simply crashes the OS when it starts up a VM - I understand the problem is with Parallel's hypervisor kext, and the "fix" is to use the Apple hypervisor,
- MS Office Update crashes and has to be repeatedly restarted to complete,
- The desktop background is screwed up again, and it changes back to default upon reboot,
- Several system icons have reverted back to default, and cannot be changed anymore, like external disks I have mounted on the desktop,
- The OS locks up in intensive graphics work, and restarts,

That's just the most annoying things I have identified the last day. I wish I could go back to Beta 4.

Dang, I may have to tread carefully going for PB1 to PB2 when it comes out then...

I'll be curious if others had a bad experience too

I am dual booting, but still I dont wanna deal with headaches while test driving

Oh no, then i need to wait for MS office to work; its the most important tool that I use it on daily basis.
Will hold off to install Public Beta then ..

Wanting to check with others who installed the developer beta, if office is not working for them.

thx for the heads up, sorry that your machine is going thru all these troubles

I didn't say that MS Office wasn't working, just when you run the MS Autoupdate, and I am on the Insider Fast track, it crashes during updates. Outlook and Excel are working, but Word is still funky...

MS Word was crashing on me constant when creating a new document, and I deleted the entire Word application. I then reinstalled, and updated, but only up-to-and-including the latest Insider Slow version, and Word works. So, it seems to be a conflict between the latest Insider Fast MS Word version and Big Sur B5.

Thanks for making me crash my machine in order to test your statement on Parallels. ;)

I installed the App Store version of Office when it became available, so that's not an issue for me. The desktop background thing is only an issue during boot up. Once the desktop loads, my settings have it randomly load one of my favorites.

I get kernel panic few minutes after start. Disabled everything what I could find that it starts during login, but I still get kernel panic. I am quite happy that I don't have it on working machine. If they make public beta from this, it will be big mess.
Macbook air works only in safe mode.

For me the new PB has been running flawlessly so far, but previous beta was terribly unstable and incompatible with several programs and devices. This on a 2017 MB 12" (the best laptop Apple has ever produced).

I had the same issue with Parallels - I deleted "my bootcamp" and recreated it again (redoin' my hardware tweaks) and it loads ok. (PS this is with the most latest Parallels version recently updated but I only installed bid sur yesterday.

The latest insider fast build of Word constantly crashing for me on Catalina this morning and I had to delete it and go back to production version so it looks like it might just be an issue with Word and nothing to do with Big Sur...

So far, 24 hrs in, and no issues. I run Microsoft 365 thru App Store, and all the stock apps.

I've had absolutely no issues on my MacBook Pro, other than some graphical glitches here and there (definitely more frequent than in beta 4). Performance has also improved quite a bit compared to beta 4.

I too went back to a previous version of MS Word, and it now works - so that was an MS issue.

The MS Autoupdater also works after the latest upgrade from MS - Fixed.

The Apple Hypervisor works for Parallels, but the Parallels one does not - Parallels needs to upgrade theirs.

Big Sur still crashes for me on my Mac Pro when put under graphics pressure, like using a number of Adobe video and photo apps concurrently - Apple to fix (this was not an issue in Beta 4).

My desktop graphics (one the Master screen) reverts to default on every boot, and my custom icons for mounted disks via Thunderbolt have reverted to default and will not be changed anymore - Apple to fix (this was not an issue in Beta 4).

Yes, it seems faster, but not much so. I wouldn’t have noticed it if you guys didn’t point it out.
