Beta 9 update on iPad

When the iOS9 beta came out, I installed it on my iPhone and iPad. The iPhone later crashed for unknown causes. The Apple Genius bar told me it had a hardware defect and gave me a replacement which I left 8.x on.

I haven't noticed problem with my iPad other than it says there is a update available. When I click on it, the ball "spins" for a few minutes and then reports the iPad is up to date. However, in Setting, it shows I have 9.0. I know there were a few 9.x updates that were installed on my phone before it crashed.

So, shouldn't my iPad report something other than 9.0? Wondering if I missed some updates and now it's too late to get them for the iPad.

What does it say next to 9.0 for the "Version"?

If you have the latest beta, it should read "9.0 (13A4325c)" and iTunes will not notify you of an update to beta software.

There are no 9.x updates. iOS 9 hasn't even been released yet. There have been a number of beta updates, but if your iPad is saying it's up to date, then chances are you're on the latest beta. If you go into General > About. What is the build number?

9.0 is what the beta is for and has seen 5(developer builds) and 3(public beta builds). Builds are not the same as version updates. 9.x updates are updates to iOS 9 release. 9.1 has been said to be related to the release of the new larger iPad Pro(according to recent front page articles), which has been rumoured to be released in late October or November.

That's beta 3. Are you on the public beta program or are you running the developer beta? Try doing a reboot.

I received NO notice of updates to my beta on my iPad. Since my beta on my iPhone turned to toast, I wasn't watching very close as I don't use my iPad that much.

It won't always notify you of an update. You'll likely need to manually update to beta 5 by obtaining the .ipsw and updating to it in iTunes.

I'm not aware of any usage in iTunes when updating iOS on an iPad.

You will have zero issues going from the beta to final release. The Public Beta program with the beta profile is designed to easily bounce from beta to official release. 9.0 beta to 9.0 release to 9.1 beta to 9.1 release...and so on for the life of iOS 9 until iOS 10 goes to beta (which will require a new iOS 10 profile when the time comes next summer.)

Did that, rebooted with the same results. Software Update still show (1), but when clicking on it, I still see iOS9.0 and "Your software is up to date" with the same version number as reported above.

Only thing I can suggest would be a DFU restore to the latest public version (8.4.1).

I'm thinking the same thing. I think I made a backup or 8.4.1 before going beta. At least I hope so. Or I could just let the sleeping dog lay since my iPad is working fine. When 9.0 gets released, hopefully I can install that from what looks like a "bent" 9.0 beta.

Then, a few minutes ago, my iPad "bricked" with a message that my Beta version had EXPIRED which locked up the unit. I followed the restore directions, but couldn't get to first base. Something about the site being unavailable. In a nutshell, I was supposed to plug into my computer with iTunes and restore.

Short version is I have an appointment to see a "genius" on Tuesday. The main reason for this post is if anyone else has a beta version that won't update, they should consider restoring to the previous iOS immediately. I thought about it, but since the iPad was still working with the Beta, I didn't think I was on a time bomb clock.

well this is awesome. the exact same thing just happened to my 4s. it wasn't detecting any new beta updates, and now its bricked and refuses to restore. luckily the photos app let me pull my pictures off, but the device won't back up and throws a can't connect to server error for restoring.

i guess i'll try a dfu thingy. :/

Yes, without success although I don't think it's a possibility because when I connect the iPad to my computer, iTunes doesn't see it and therefore, I can't restore it.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201263 I did get well into the procedure on this link and thought I was home free as it said it was downloading (I think) iOS 8. However, after several minutes it hung and then quit. The Apple genius bar has high powered software that might fix the problem very quickly.

I still don't understand why I didn't get all the updates to the Beta.

Weren't people saying that there were no expirations when it comes to iOS 9 betas (and some earlier ones as well)?

Yup worked. Back on 8.4.1. I didn't have a backup though so I don't know if you could restore from one made on ios9.

OK, because of you, I'm going to give the procedure ONE more shot. Can't believe how much time I've wasted on this.

WONDER OF WONDERS. Finally after trying a whole lot of stuff, I was never able to get the DFU "thingy" to work. However, I finally got the restore feature to work and now I'm back on iOS 8.4.

IMHO, the Beta 9.0 is not something to play around with. Yes, I initially liked the new look and still do. However, it bricked my iPhone and up until a few minutes ago, it bricked my iPad. No more beta iOS's for me. That said, I've been running the public beta El Capitan since it came out and it hasn't coughed once. In fact, that's the reason I decided to give the iOS beta a shot.
