I downloaded the full installer and tried installing on a thunderbolt drive. The install failed twice with a non-bootable volume.
Fix --> I resorted to installing a second copy of Ventura first and then installed over it. That worked.
After booting Sonoma system update wanted to upgrade the attached Studio monitor. After ten minutes of trundling it ended up with the old support.apple.com/displays/restore.
Fix --> I attached an HDMI monitor and shut down the system. I unplugged the power to both Studiosm waited, and restarted. It all worked.
