Found this sight on LowEnd Mac


A PowerMac G4 for just 129!!! I was like YES!!! This would give me a PowerMac at a price which i could then start updating right away. But then i recall the MacRumors code

"if it too good to be true, it normally is"

SO now i must ask, has anyone used this site? If so was it good? Did you get the Computer your orders? Was it work? ect..

Its a Yikes PCI. I have no G3, i'll add the link to the site. I'm getting this PM as a project to upgrade and play with.
 
Lowendmac.com is a legit site. And all the dealers listed are legit as well. $129 is a decent price, although that particular model is a Yikes! with PCI video. Not as good as the Sawtooth with AGP.
 
Yeah I actually have this computer and I can tell you it's not worth more than $129 due to lack of AGP. I believe no one offers processor upgrades beyond 500 Mhz (which is definitely not worth it) because the motherboard can't handle it... but it is faster than a 600 MHz G3 IMO.

I still use mine as a server, and it can definitely handle the internet, microsoft office, and photoshop if that's the most you do. Of course, I would recommend a HD and RAM upgrade, which is possible. I have 768 MB in mine and I wouldn't recommend anything lower than 512 MB if you're planning on running it with 10.4 (Apple lists 256MB as the requirement but this is not enough IMO). As far as the HD you could get away with it but I would suggest at least 20 GB.

So you might want to take those costs of getting a truly functional computer into account. After all is said and done, you're probably looking at at least $300 total to end up with a useable computer under 10.4. Compare that to all you would get with a Mac mini or a G4 Quicksilver tower if you want to get a used computer and you start to see where this PowerMac might not be that good of a deal.

Plus, we don't know which machines will run 10.5 and there's a chance that Apple might decide to leave PCI graphics machines behind this time, or if not now, then in the next OS upgrade.

So, considering all these factors, you can see how it's worth $129. Although I've never heard of this place, I would say that this deal does not sound "too good to be true" to me.
 
My dad has a 350Mhz yikes machine. He got the ATI Radeon 9200/128mb PCI video card for it, a 120GB hard drive, a Combo drive, and 896mb of ram.

I think it runs great, except for the fact that it needs a CPU upgrade.
 
Damn... ive got a Back Store Room Full of thoes computers.
I work at a school and we dont use them anymore. (Got eMacs & G5's)
Got about 6 of em lying around... thats about 700 dollars worth of machines.
Would take some effort on my part to get them all in working order again.. as they have been sitting unconsious for about 2 years now. :confused:
