I've decided that the app selection method sucks. It takes for ever to scroll through the list trying to find the app you want... They are not even in alphabetical order. They should just show a smaller version of springboard... You should also be able to switch the app on both sides.

Better app selection method for split screen.

This was indeed discussed before in various topic e.g. this one.
These are the overall wishes of many users:
Slide Over/Split view in general unfortunately lacks:
1) open the app that you have open in slide over/split view to change to main app (full screen)
2) search bar to search your favorite app (if it supports this feature)
3) deselect apps that you don't want to show in the list of apps that support Slide Over/Split view
