Education discount will get you either the new 64GB iPad Air for $549 or you can get the 128GB 11" iPad Pro + free Airpods for $749. Sell the AirPods and you're at around a $100 difference ($649).

I think it's definitely still worth it to get the Pro. $100 for ProMotion, brighter screen, double storage, A12Z sounds faster than A14 at this point, better camera, FaceID, better speakers... wow.

What do you think?

It depends on what you're looking for and what the market is in your area for AirPods. My time is not free, it is worth something. The time and effort it would take to sell the AirPods is not worth it for me. If you can quickly and easily sell AirPods, sure sounds like a good idea.

I’d pick iPad Pro any day. A12Z is beasty running games and heavy load apps. ProMotion is kinda meh in practice imo but why not. Triple camera is better than iPad Air camera.

I’m pretty sure the A12z>A14.

When Apple says the A14 is X% faster, they’re comparing it to the previous Air and not the beefed up A12z.

Personally, I don’t see any way the Air is better than the Pro other than color choices.

At a $100 difference I’d get the pro, mostly for the storage bump. But as sracer points out, selling the AirPods requires some time and effort. Whether that’s a big deal will vary from person to person.

I personally went with the Pro since I needed 128 GB and not 256 GB and definitely more RAM.
