Since iPad Pro 2017, Apple started to support HDR (Dolby Vision and HDR10) content in iPads. However, there is a difference between supporting HDR content and actually displaying them in HDR. For example, in the specifications of models with P3 LCD, such as previous generations of iPads (iPad Pro and 4th Gen. iPad Air), as well as iPhone XR and 11, Apple says "Supports Dolby Vision and HDR10 content", e.g.,

On the other hand, in iPhone models with OLED, such as iPhone X, XS, 11 Pro, and 12, Apple says "HDR with Dolby Vision, HDR10", e.g.,

For this year's iPad Pro (both 11 and 12.9), looking at the "TV and Video" section of the tech specs (https://www.apple.com/ipad-pro/specs/), it says "HDR with Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG", in the same way as OLED iPhones.

We know with mini-LED, the 2021 12.9-inch iPad Pro can indeed display HDR. But as far as I know Apple didn't upgrade 11-inch's display. I wonder why Apple says "HDR with Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG" for the 11-inch model. Will the new 11-inch iPad Pro do better with HDR content than the previous generation?

The iPad Pros (at least since the 10.5 version) have always met the minimum standards for HDR but not all HDR displays are equal. Some can interpret the higher contrast/color but no actually display it.

The 11" iPad is still one of the best LCD displays you can buy (IMO) it just doesn't have the true contrast of OLED (or presumably the mini-LED XDR display). I definitely see a difference with HDR content on my 2018 11" model but I don't think the 2021 model will look any better. So not "pure marketing" but no improvement on the 11".

Can anyone advise what HDR content is available at what resolution and HDR standard from the main content providers (Youtube, Netflix, Amazon Prime, iTunes movies) and also for third party camera produced content (iPhone, Sony cameras) ?

The reason that I ask is that the device capabilities and the availability of content are not always aligned !

Thanks.
